Over the River and Through the Woods
Outdoor winter fun will be featured at Wade House this February. The excitement is
planned for one exclusive day, Saturday, February 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. when Wade
House will host “Over the River and Through the Woods” sleigh rides. Horse-drawn sleigh rides
will be offered every thirty minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 14.
The sight of colorful sleighs and the sound of sleigh bells breaking the snowy silence
were commonplace during cold winter months in the late 19th century. Sleigh rides were one of
the joys of winter with sleighing parties often organized by family and friends for an opportunity
to socialize.
At Wade House’s “Over the River and Through the Woods” sleigh ride event, guests will
be invited to climb aboard a horse-drawn sleigh (or wagon) for a ride through the northern
reaches of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The cost for the sleigh rides are: $15 for adults and
teens; $13 for seniors; $8 for children; and $5 for children under 5 years of age. Sleigh ride
reservations are highly recommended and may be booked by visiting www.wadehouse.org.
Reservations in advance and on the day of will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. No
snow? No problem! Wade House will offer horse-drawn wagon rides without snow.
Besides going on a sleigh (or wagon) ride, guests will be able to see Wesley W. Jung's
wonderful collection of horse-drawn vehicles in our carriage museum. Also included in the fee
for the sleigh rides is use of snowshoes to explore Wade House’s 240 acres. Snowshoes will be
loaned on a first come, first serve basis.
The Wade House historic site is one of 12 Wisconsin Historical Society historic sites and
museums. For more information and to book your tickets, please visit www.wadehouse.org or
