SUMMARY:An Armed Forces Day Concert Featuring the Radio Rosies
DESCRIPTION:The Plymouth Arts Center is pleased to present An Armed Forces Day Concert featuring The Radio Rosies and their fabulous band. The group brings back the classic three-part harmonies of the ’30s\, ’40s\, and ’50s\, with tunes that will make you tap your toes or brush a sentimental tear from your eye. This female trio stays true to the authentic charm of the era\, singing beloved favorites as well as rarer gems of the time. \nTwo shows will be presented at the Plymouth Arts Center on Armed Forces Day\, Saturday\, May 17\, 2025.  Show times are 2:30pm and 7:30pm.  Tickets are $20 per person and are available at the PAC box office\, 520 E. Mill Street\, Downtown Plymouth\, WI or online at PlymouthArts.Org. \nAn Opening Ceremony will be conducted by The Plymouth American Legion Color Guard along with a local performing arts Veteran. The PAC Great room will showcase the artwork of local veteran artists. \nAt each show\, the PAC will be auctioning off one quilt made by the Camo Quilt Project. Proceeds will benefit their program\, which has just completed 700 quilts for troops deploying in May. \nAbout the RADIO ROSIES: \nThe Radio Rosies\, a USO-style trio formed in 2013\, performs regularly around the Milwaukee area with their fabulous instrumentalists. The Rosies (Catherine\, Heather\, and Elizabeth) are passionate about performing in the style of the classic female vocal trios of the Greatest Generation – the Andrews Sisters\, the McGuire Sisters\, and more! They have performed for such events as the USS Milwaukee Commissioning\, an Honor Flight send-off\, and the 101st Airborne Division Reunion in Madison. The Rosies have also appeared at Sunset Theater in Elm Grove\, South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center\, Waukesha Civic Theater\, and Vogel Hall in the Marcus Center of Performing Arts. \nHeather Blachowski (mezzo-soprano) – Heather is a classically trained dancer and has studied with the Milwaukee Ballet Company. She has been performing in area musical theater productions since high school\, most recently portraying Connie in A Chorus Line (Sunset Playhouse) and Keeri in Firebringer (Hi-Five Arts). She is mom to two sons\, Aidan and Avery\, and her day job is the Director of Operations for the Software Engineering Team at Ascension Healthcare. Heather dedicates all of her Radio Rosies performances to the memory of her grandmother\, Mary Peterson\, who performed in a similar trio in the 1940s. \nElizabeth Novacek (soprano) has always had a particular fondness for the music\, fashion\, and films of the 1940s\, and she is delighted to be able to share her love for the Great American Songbook by performing with the Radio Rosies! Elizabeth has appeared locally in musicals such as My Fair Lady\, State Fair\, and Oklahoma! She has also sung at the Basilica of St. Josaphat and at St. Stanislaus in Milwaukee\, where she routinely has had the pleasure of singing with instrumentalists from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra\, both in a choral setting and as a soloist. She is an award-winning artist and enjoys photography and social dancing. She is thankful as always to her wonderful parents for their support\, her other two Rosies for their tireless enthusiasm\, and for our amazing instrumentalists for lending us their brilliant talents! \nCatherine Kahler (alto) – After teaching middle school literature and writing for ten years\, Catherine now works in marketing for an actuarial consulting firm. She loves spending time with her husband Kevin and her two stepchildren\, Addie and Owen. Previously\, she dipped her toes into the waters of musical theater\, appearing in local productions of Oklahoma!\, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Hairspray. \nThomas Pibal (drums) – Thomas Pibal eats\, breathes\, and lives music\, although sometimes he eats bacon and breathes air\, too. Thomas plays 26 instruments\, has a different hairstyle every day and lives to connect with\, edify\, and inspire people through the amazing and transcendent art of organized sound. As a student\, Thomas was a co-recipient of Lakeland College’s “Outstanding Overall Music Student” award\, and in 2016\, was nominated for the WAMI’s “Keyboard Player of the Year” award. He teaches private lessons in the Sheboygan area and at the Holy Family Conservatory in Manitowoc. Thomas performs regularly as a solo entertainer and lounge pianist as seen at www.thomaspibal.com and is also the drummer for the jazz combo Jive Safely: www.jivesafely.com. \nFabian Qamar (piano) is active as a singer\, multi-instrumentalist\, conductor\, arranger\, composer\, improviser\, and teacher. He currently serves as Director of the Sheboygan Symphony Youth Orchestra Sinfonia\, Associate Director of Sacred Music at St. Stanislaus Oratory in Milwaukee\, and vocalist and pianist for the jazz trio Jive Safely. He has also served as Director of the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus and Adjunct Instructor of Voice at Lakeland University. In his private studio\, he teaches voice\, violin/viola\, and piano. Fabian is also committed to preserving the music and legacy of his late father\, jazz and world music luminary\, Nadi Qamar\, aka Spaulding Givens. Fabian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Lakeland University and a Master of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He regularly serves as The Radio Rosies’ pianist and always enjoys making music with the Rosies and the band! \nDoug Peterson (bass) – After finishing his career with the U.S. Marine Corps 26 years ago\, Doug returned to the area and started his own painting and decorating business\, which is still going strong. A charter member of BtW Productions\, Doug has served as the bass player for most of their endeavors since the mid ‘90s. After years of funk\, soul\, and rock ‘n’ roll\, he has picked up with the jazz trio Jive Safely. Doug has been performing with the Radio Rosies since 2013. \nThe Plymouth Arts Center is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization solely supported through memberships\, fundraisers\, business and individual donations\, grants and sponsorships. The mission of the PAC is….to enliven the spirit of our community and to enrich the lives of all\, by providing diverse experiences in the arts.
